The establishment and operation of Tourist Agencies in Cyprus is regulated by the Tourist and Travel Agencies and Travel Agents Law 1995.
According to the provisions of the above Law:
(a) A foreign Agency which carries on activities in Cyprus must be represented by a licensed local agency.
(b) A foreign Agency may not carry on in Cyprus on an organised or permanent basis activities except only through the licensed local Agency.
(c) The foreign Agency and local Agency must jointly notify the Organisation the date of the commencement of their cooperation and the date of its termination, and provide the organisation with any particulars which may be requested in relation to the arrival, transportation and the place of accomodation of tourists.
(d) The local Agent is jointly responsible with the foreign agency for any contravention on the provisions of the Law committed by the foreign Agency.
Approximately 454 licensed (by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation) Travel Agencies (plus 167 branches) are in operation throughout the island, many of which are IATA members. (August 2000).
A List of Travel Agents can be found in the Cyprus Tourism Organisation's annual "Guide to Hotels, Travel Agencies and other Tourist Services" which can be obtained from all Cyprus Tourism Organisation Offices in Cyprus and abroad.
The Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTA) also issues an annual directory giving the Association's major objectives and a list of its members.
